PS4 to Xbox One Sales Ratio is 1.5:1 in the UK, Declares Sony

At a briefing meeting in London yesterday, PlayStation UK Managing Director Fergal Gara announced the ratio of PS4 to Xbox One sales in the UK currently sits at 1.5:1.

According to Gamespot, Gara was particularly delighted to report the figure after revealing that the ratio was reversed for the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3, and admitting to a pressure to recapture the market.

Sony's UK market share of home and handheld consoles has grown from 23 percent to 40 percent over the last two years, said Gara. He also reminded the audience that the PlayStation 4 was the fastest selling console in UK history.

Sony's biggest reveal at the meeting was the availability of the PS Vita Slim in the UK on February 7, 2014. We got our mitts on the thinner handheld; check out our unboxing video here.

Rust Sells 750,000 Copies, Studio Seeks Solutions for Cheating

Rust, the survival game from the creator of Garry's Mod, has quickly been overtaking its predecessor –– as of today, Garry Newman and Facepunch Studios have sold 750,000 copies of Rust.

Those copies were sold in a month and a half; that's two-thirds of what Garry's Mod sold in eight years. Rust has also been the top-seller on Steam for almost two weeks, placing just above DayZ, according to the Steam sales chart. Facepunch never expected this; it's been a blessing and a curse.

On the Rust Status Report #002, Newman said that "the amount of people playing has kind of given us a sensory overload. We see all these amazing things happening, voices from all directions, ideas, bugs, cheaters.. and we’re scrambling to catch up with everything. So please don’t be offended if we’re not doing what you want us to, if we don’t respond to emails or tweets, if we’re not administrating the servers properly."

And the studio has already begun to implement rules against cheaters. Although the Valve Anti-Cheat system has been effectively banning players intentionally manipulating the game, it's not as responsive as Newman and his team would like. So, they've been reaching out to several different companies for a solution to quelling the game's dissenters. But Newman wants to be cautious.

"The very last thing we want to do is rush out a system that accidentally bans legitimate users – and then have to un-ban everyone," he writes. "There needs to be no doubt that a specific steam account has been used to cheat.

We are still adjusting our trajectory, there’s still a lot we want to do."

The Best Games of the Nintendo eShop Indie Sale on Wii U

From now through February 13, a handful of indie games including Mighty Switch Force! Hyper Drive Edition and Toki Tori 2+, are discounted on the Wii U's eShop.

There is a catch, however. You must own one of the following games already or purchase one at full price during this promotion. Once you do, you'll receive a 60% discount on all the other titles.

  • Toki Tori 2+
  • Spin the Bottle: Bumpie's Party
  • BIT.TRIP Present... Runner 2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien
  • Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams
  • Mighty Switch Force! Hyper Drive Edition

We gave Toki Tori 2 an 8.0 out of 10, praising its charming visuals and music, simple controls, and satisfying difficulty. Toki Tori 2+, released late last year for the Wii U, includes new puzzles and music.

Likewise, we enjoyed Runner 2, and in our 9.0 review we talk about how we enjoyed its learning curve and soundtrack. Mighty Switch Force: Hyper Drive Edition was a strong improvement over the original, with redrawn art and new "hyper" versions of each level.

KI's New Patch to Punish Rage-Quitters

Hot on the heels of the Spinal reveal, Double Helix’s “Filthie” Rich Bantegui has outlined a new patch that will be “coming soon.” Aside from adding support for their bony new character, the update will address a variety of minor bugs, as well as the hot-button topic of how to deal with online rage-quitters.

According to the forum post on Double Helix’s website, if a player’s disconnect rate exceeds 15%, they will be sent to “jail” for 24 hours, during which time they will only be able to play with other jailmates. Subsequent trips to the virtual big-house will increase your sentence by 24 hours up to a maximum of five days, and every match that sends you there will result in a loss for you. Hopefully this will cut down on people intentionally disconnecting while getting pummeled by a long Ultra combo at the end of a match.

The ability to reset player positions in training mode is a small, but welcome addition, and thankfully, no balance changes of any kind have been made. With Killer Instinct still being so young, it’s nice to see Double Helix allow the game time to breathe and develop before making any changes.

Do you think this is a good solution to rage-quitters? Put in your two cents in the comment section. For any and all things regarding Killer Instinct, keep it here on IGN.

QuakeCon 2014 Date Announced, Room Reservations Opened

Bethesda announced today that the biggest BYOC LAN party west of the Mississippi, QuakeCon 2014, will run from Thursday, July 17 through Sunday, July 20.

If you're a QuakeCon regular, those dates might sound fishy. That's because for nearly 19 years, id Software's celebration of all things PC has taken place in August. Parent company Bethesda didn't offer any explanation as to why the convention was bumped up two weeks, but it did open reservations at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas, Texas, so you can secure your QuakeCon hotel room now.

Now that we know when QuakeCon 2014 is, the question is who will be giving this year's keynote speech? Industry icon John Carmack left id Software in November to join Oculus, the company behind the Rift virtual reality headset. His QuakeCon keynotes were one of the annual highlights of the show. On Twitter, Carmack said he's "offered to give my traditional talk at Quakecon, we'll see if it is accepted."

We contacted Bethesda for comment and was told they aren't ready to share any additional details about QuakeCon 2014 just yet. We'll keep you posted.

For now, let the next round of Doom 4 speculation begin.
