More Xbox One Rumours as Microsoft Tries to Track Leaker

A fresh Xbox One rumour suggests Microsoft is planning to release a cheaper model of the console later this year.

An anonymous source claimed to VG247 that Microsoft has already briefed its publishing partners about the claim.

It's not immediately clear what model is being discussed, as the source can't confirm whether it's the disc-less model with a bluetooth adapter that was mentioned by another leaker yesterday. Supposedly, once the new model is out Microsoft would drop the price of the current Xbox One model to bring it in line with the PS4.

We've reached out to Microsoft to try and substantiate the rumours, along with the ones yesterday about the white and Titanfall models coming to retail, though it seems unlikely the company is going to comment.

What's interesting about yesterday's claims, especially the ones about the Xbox One game release dates including Halo 5 and Crackdown 3, is that Kotaku claims to have word from a Microsoft contact that company execs are trying to track down whoever leaked the details and take legal action against them. While this doesn't mean everything or even anything he said was true, it's clear that Microsoft isn't ready to talk about all its future plans.

We're working to verify all of this with Microsoft as fast as we can and will update the story as soon as we know more. The likelihood is we'll be told the company doesn't comment on rumour and speculation though, so we may just have to wait and see.
