Arrow: First Photos of the Suicide Squad Revealed

It was recently revealed that the sixteenth episode of Arrow: Season 2 would be called “Suicide Squad” and now the first photos of the Arrow incarnation of that DC Comics team have been released.

CBR have debuted the photos, along with the exact lineup of character who will be part of the Suicide Squad. Like in the comics, the group is led by Amanda Waller (Cynthia Addai-Robinson), and we’d already seen her recruit Bronze Tiger (Michael Jai White) in a recent episode. The full lineup also includes Shrapnel (Sean Maher), Deadshot (Michael Rowe) and none other than John Diggle (David Ramsey) and his old ally, Lyla Michaels (Audrey Marie Anderson).

Arrow executive producer Andrew Kreisberg recently spoke about the “Suicide Squad” episode, remarking, “You know, Dig was our way into Amanda Waller. In this episode, Amanda comes to Dig and Lyla and she basically recruits Dig for a mission and tells him that he's going to need a team. She saddles him with the Suicide Squad, including Floyd Lawton [Deadshot].”

Episode 16 will be very Diggle-centric, with EP Marc Guggenheim noting, “Again, we’re going back to the idea that things are laid in one season and paid off in another. In episode 14 of last year, Diggle told Felicity this story about how he saved the life of this warlord, a guy named Golam Kadir. Well, in episode 16, the flashbacks will be told from Diggle's perspective in Afghanistan, saving the life of Golam Kadir.”

Kreisberg also revealed, “The coolest part is we actually have Ben Browder back, who played Dig's former commanding officer, who is a villain in the present day - but back in the old days he was just Dig's commanding officer. A special shout-out to Ben Browder, because he actually took a significant pay cut to do this, because this episode was getting out of hand financially, and he just said, 'You guys are cool guys, and I had fun.’ So he is a great guy.”

Added Guggenheim, “He is awesome in this episode. It's so much fun to see him play -- obviously he's playing the same character, just like the way Stephen plays Island Oliver and present-day Oliver -- but Ben is bringing this nice little subtle difference to the flashback, especially in his relationship with Diggle. They're commanding officer and subordinate, but they're still friends, and you see that closeness that was all just talked about in episode 11 from last year. So it's a treat for us.”

Arrow: "Suicide Squad" airs March 19 on The CW.
