Beneath a Steel Sky 2 Not in Development After All

Revolution Software has confirmed that it is currently not working on a sequel to classic adventure game Beneath a Steel Sky 2, contrary to recent reports.

GamesTM said that Revolution "will be returning" to the project, which had reportedly been in development for "quite some time." However, IGN got in contact with Revolution to find that this was not the case - there's currently still too much work to do on its current Broken Sword project before it can think about developing other games.

"I'm afraid to say that BASS2 isn't in development currently," said a Revolution representative named Catherine. "Broken Sword 5 - the Serpent's Curse remains our main focus until the release of episode 2."

She admits that after updates and other platform releases for Broken Sword 5, the team may have time to "think" about other projects - but unfortunately, Broken Sword remains its sole focus for now.

The first half of Broken Sword 5 is out on PC, Vita, and mobile devices, with our review in progress until the Q1 release of the second chapter. It was Kickstarted in 2012; it had a one-million-dollar stretch goal of greenlighting production of BASS2, but this goal was not met.

Beneath a Steel Sky is a point-and-click adventure game originally released in 1994 and set in a post-apocalypse Australia. Dave Gibbons, artist and co-creator of comic book Watchmen, worked closely with Revolution head Charles Cecil in bringing the concept to life.

You can download and play the PC version of Beneath a Steel Sky for free via ScummVM. A remastered version was also released for iPhone in 2009; we said it was "certainly worth the attention of adventure fans" in our review.
