This week has an insane amount of books both in terms of big endings, new beginnings, and just awesome comics that have proven their worth -- not to mention some sweet toys and games!
Check out our top picks and, as always, what you’re picking up this week!
Wolverine and the X-Men #42 - $4.99
By Jason Aaron & Various Artists | Marvel Comics
We have loved Jason Aaron's energetic and emotional Wolverine and the X-Men, and now he departs the title after 42 issues of Broo, Bamfs, and Doop. This oversized issue packed with artists from the whole run is one you won't want to miss. Just don't forget the tissues.
Cataclysm: Ultimates Last Stand #5 - $3.99
By Brian Michael Bendis & Mark Bagley | Marvel Comics
The Ultimate Universe is enduring its second apocalyptic event that seeks to "change everything forever!" but will it "end everything forever!" this time instead? Galactus is proving to be as formidable as ever, so check out this issue to see how the Ultimates and company handle his latest case of the munchies. The fate of the world -- and an entire publishing line -- are at stake.
Uncanny Avengers #17 - $3.99
By Rick Remender & Steve McNiven | Marvel Comics
Rick Remender has been outdoing himself with every issue of Uncanny Avengers -- did you see last issue "I care not!" Thor beatdown!? -- and now we reach the end of the excruciatingly awesome Ragnarok Now arc. This is Remender's most ambitious and epic story since his Dark Angel Saga, and if the quality and long-lasting effects of that story are any indicator, Uncanny Avengers #17 will prove to be an unmissable book for any Marvel fan.
Fantastic Four #1 - $3.99
By James Robinson & Leonard Kirk | Marvel Comics
It was a bit of a surprise to see the Fantastic Four rebooted again so soon, but it's hard not to get excited at yet another new spin on Marvel's First Family, especially with James Robinson and Leonard Kirk involved. Between the team's ominous red costumes and the "The Fall of the Fantastic Four" title of the first story arc, we're already stress-eating to how this is all going to pan out.
Superman: Lois Lane #1 - $4.99
By Marguerite Bennett & Dan Jurgens | DC Comics
Writer Marguerite Bennett did an impressive job turning the initially-not-that-well-received Joker's Daughter into a disturbing yet engrossing character study, and now she has set her sights on Lois Lane. We have long been dying for a Lois Lane ongoing series -- she's one of comics' most well-known characters and she doesn't even have super powers, after all -- so this oversized one-shot issue is a great start.
One-Hit Wonder #1 - $3.50
By Fabrice Sapolsky & Ariel Olivetti | Image Comics
We don't know much about this series other than the dude on the cover went from child star to notorious hitman. With the Hollywood backdrop, that's all it takes to pique our interest.
Revenge #1 - $2.99
By Jonathan Ross & Ian Churchill | Image Comics
Another story set in Hollywood, Revenge is decidedly darker. The dude on the cover? He had it all, but then someone took it away from him, including his face. Yikes. As far as good reasons for revenge go, that definitely is at the top of the list.
Pariah #1 - $3.99
Aaron Warner, Phillip Gelatt & Brett Weldele | Dark Horse Comics
We are still on a feel-good buzz from seeing Alfonso Cuaron's Gravity movie, so this story of astronauts stranded in space is more than welcome. While it doesn't have Sandra Bullock or 3D imagery, we're still down for this sci-fi tale of genetically engineered geniuses in space on a mission to get back home.
Tomb Raider #1 - $3.50
Gail Simone & Nicolas Daniel Selma | Dark Horse Comics
If you've enjoyed Batgirl and/or Red Sonja, or if you love comics where the emotions hit just as hard as the action, then you'll want to pick up Gail Simone's Tomb Raider comic. It picks up after the events of last year's Tomb Raider game, and while it's not necessary to have played it to understand this comic, it will enhance the Lara Croft experience for anyone who has.
All-Star Western #28 - $3.99
Justin Gray, Jimmy Palmiotti, Moritat, & Darwyn Cooke | DC Comics
Now, this isn't a new series like the others in this section, but Jonah Hex does have a new face! Taking away Hex's scars is like taking away Batman's pointy ears, so we're excited to see how this affects our favorite ugly cowboy.
