Die Hard Director John McTiernan Released From Jail

John McTiernan, director of Predator, Die Hard, and The Hunt for Red October, was released from his minimum security jail in Yankton, South Dakota, on Tuesday morning after almost 11 months of imprisonment.

The news was announced via the Free John McTiernan Facebook page. According to the latest statement on the page McTiernan has left Yankton prison and returned to his ranch in Wyoming alongside his wife Gail.

McTiernan will be required to wear an ankle monitor until April 3 and is not expected to speak publically his house arrest period ends, reports The Hollywood Reporter, but a spokesperson for McTiernan states the director is filing a complaint with the Justice Department Office of Professional Responsibility in a bid to have his felony conviction overturned and erased.

In 2010 McTiernan was sentenced to a year in prison and a $100,000 fine after pleading guilty to making false statements to the FBI during an investigation into LA private investigator Anthony Pellicano (who was arrested in 2006 for wiretapping and racketeering). The director had hired Pellicano in 2002 to investigate producer Chuck Roven while McTiernan was making Rollerball with Roven. McTiernan ran out of appeals in January last year.

In the meantime, in a statement published on Monday on the Free John McTiernan Facebook page, McTiernan's wife Gail says she has instructed her husband to "get back to making movies."
