This day has been burdened with glorious purpose.
Avengers: Age of Ultron begins shooting today in Johannesburg, South Africa. According to reports, this will be the setting of the opening 10 minutes of the film. Unfortunately for the citizens of Johannesburg, none of the actual Avengers are currently on location with the crew.
The opening of the first Avengers centered on S.H.I.E.L.D., Loki and the Tesseract, establishing the story for that film. The South Africa opening will most likely do the same. It should be noted that Johannesburg will reportedly serve as Johannesburg and not as a substitute for another city.
After filming for two weeks in South Africa, the crew will move on to Italy, South Korea and Pinewood Studios in the UK, where most of the film will be shot.
Avengers: Age of Ultron is slated for release on May 1, 2015.
