Oz Comic-Con is About to Get a Whole Lot Bigger

We've got some good news for you if you're a fan of pop culture cons in Australia - Oz Comic-Con is about to get a whole lot bigger.

The folk behind the Aussie pop culture convention have teamed up with the world's largest producer of pop culture events ReedPOP, with the aim to combine resources and usher Oz Comic-Con into a new era. ReedPOP's portfolio curently includes New York Comic Con, PAX (PAX East, PAX Prime and PAX Australia) and Star Wars Celebration.

"Teaming ReedPOP, the world’s leading producer of pop culture events, with Oz Comic-Con, Australia’s top series of pop culture shows, was a natural fit," said ReedPOP's Global Vice President Lance Fensterman in a statement. "We are thrilled to work with the entire team at Oz Comic-Con and together build fan experiences that are bigger, better and more amazing than either of us could do alone."

Speaking with IGN, Fensterman is enthusiastic about building upon Oz Comic-Con's existing foundations and blowing it up into an internationally recognized brand.

"We want to work on what [Oz Comic Con] has done and make it even better. That means more of an international presence at the events - more big names, and the big brands."

Considering the success of its Penny Arcade expos, it's clear a strength of ReedPOP's is its ability to tap into the various niches of video game culture.

"I think you’ll see some real growth there," says Fensterman of the presence of video games at Oz Comic-Con. "Not just with the big brands, but with table top gaming and indie gaming, too."

ReedPOP will first have a presence at Oz Comic-Con's upcoming Perth (March 29-30) and Adelaide (April 5-6) shows, with the group's assessment of those helping to build future events.

"We want to hear from the fans," says Fensterman. "If you’ve got wants, wishes, bring 'em."
