If you like your foreign films uncut, you may be in luck.
Last year, there was quite a bit of hubbub surrounding Korean director Bong Joon-Ho's film Snowpiercer coming to America. Though the Korean adaptation of the French graphic novel Le Transperceneige features mostly English dialogue and features recognizable Western actors such as Chris Evans (Captain America: The Winter Soldier), Tilda Swinton (Moonrise Kingdom) and Octavia Spencer (The Help), the Weinstein Company reportedly had issues with the length and pacing of the two and a half-hour film. They reportedly wanted 20 minutes of character development cut out so that Snowpiercer could sell more as an action movie than a drama.
IF quoted a source as saying the Weinsteins wanted to make sure the film would be "understood by audiences in Iowa ... and Oklahoma." The director was incensed at the company's demands, and a feud ensued. Now, it appears the standoff has finally reached a compromise.
Deadline reports that the Weinsteins have agreed to release Snowpiercer unedited in the US, but will reduce its availability from wide release to limited release. It will then roll out in additional markets.
Snowpiercer -- which has already opened to strong reviews in France and Korea -- is set in "a dystopian future where, after a failed experiment to stop global warming, an ice age has killed off most of humanity. The only survivors left are inhabitants of a train called the Snowpiercer, which has developed a highly segregated caste system: elites in the front and the poor in the back."
