The 2014 New York Toy Fair has come and gone, but man was it packed with collectibles so awesome that our wallets might as well already be empty. But what were the best?
Check out the five coolest collectibles that we saw at Toy Fair this year, and then view our full coverage from the show as well.
There were a lot of great Batman pieces at this year's show -- aren't there always? -- but these new action figures from Batman: The Animated series hit us right in the nostalgia. The fact that we are getting more toys in the style of Bruce Timm's beloved cartoon series is awesome enough, but given how excellent the craftsmanship is, now we just feel spoiled. DC Collectibles captured Batman's stern Bat-titude just perfectly, and now Catwoman can actually bend her limbs like a master thief ought to.
Check out Catwoman and the full DC Collectibles gallery here.
There have been many fine statues, busts, and props based on Game of Thrones, but now we finally get genuine action figures! Fans of the show have been waiting years while fans of the books have been waiting since the '90s, so it's great to finally see Daenerys, Tyrion, and Ned in fully poseable plastic form, thanks to Funko. Unfortunately, just like in the show, Ned's head is not re-attachable.
Check out Ned (and his head) and the full Funko gallery here.
Everybody is all about Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy this week, what with the trailer finally dropping and all, so it was the perfect time for good old Kotobukiya to reveal this sweet statue featuring the intergalactic team's most unique members: Rocket Raccoon and Groot, the living tree. They may seem weird now, but by this August they'll be the go-to characters in pop culture. Bet on it.
Check out the full Kotobukiya gallery here, including female takes (!) on Freddy and Jason.
It's hard to believe Ghostbusters turns 30 this year, and while the ever-elusive Ghosbusters 3 may never come, at least we have this LEGO set to look forward to. Featuring the original team of Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, Egon Spengler, and Winston Zeddemore -- and the Ectomobile as well -- the set was picked from the company’s CUUSOO program, which allows fans to submit ideas for potential projects. What next? Dogs and cats living together? Mass hysteria!
Apes are cool again (I mean, really, when were they not?), with the successful reboot Rise of the Planet of the Apes leading to this summer's highly anticipated Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. And NECA, who are always on top of nice movie replica figures, grabbed the license not just for Dawn but also for the original Apes films. Come on, say it with us... get your stinkin' paws off my action figures, you damned, dirty ape!
Check out the full NECA gallery here, including classic Apes figures and more.
