Things are getting stranger at Marvel, and we're not just talking about the (awesome) weirdos in Guardians of the Galaxy.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the hunt for a filmmaker to tackle Marvel boss Kevin Feige's purported dream project, Doctor Strange, is finally on. The reported front-runners to direct are Mark Andrews, best known as co-writer and director of Pixar's Brave, Nikolaj Arcel, writer and director of last year's best foreign film Oscar-nominated A Royal Affair, Dean Israelite, a relatively unknown director behind the upcoming sci-fi flick Welcome to Yesterday; and Jonathan Levine, who helmed young adult favourites Warm Bodies and 50/50.
On the screenplay side, Marvel is reportedly negotiating a rewrite with Kung Fu Panda scribes Jon Aibel and Glenn Berger.
Doctor Strange is a Marvel Phase 3 project.The flick will centre around an arrogant surgeon who is taught the mystic arts after saving the life of a sorcerer known as the Ancient One. THR notes that one of the challenges facing the filmmakers is meshing the mystical elements with the slightly more gritty and grounded realities of previous Marvel movies.
