Is eSports in Titanfall's future?

Respawn Entertainment has said that while Titanfall will probably not be eSports-ready out of the box, they have not ruled it out for future iterations.

"We have a TON of interest from the e-sports community, and I know we’re not going to be shipping with all the features that they’re going to be wanting in the game, but we’re in our first iteration," says community manager Abbie Heppe, responding to a list of Titanfall fans' questions posted by Major Nelson. "A lot of the games that have developed good e-sports features and the competitive community are ones that multiple iterations to get that done and to build in those things."

Heppe says that the priority, so far, has been to get a "really solid foundation" out to gamers.

"We’re interested in what competitive players think when the game ships," she adds, "and it’s definitely something we’ll look into, but not something that’s been our primary focus."

Numerous Xbox One owners participated in Titanfall's open beta, so the market for more competitive play is definitely there. We'll have to see how Titanfall evolves in the months after its release, however. Would you want to play Titanfall competitively?

Until the official March 11 release, you can read up on some of Titanfall's maps, mechs, and monsters.
