The Skylanders series has crossed the $2 billion in sales threshold, Activision has revealed. With 175 million toys sold since 2011, it makes the series one of the top 20 highest-selling video game franchises of all time.
The company shared with IGN the following infographic detailing the series' success.
If you consider Skylanders an action figure line, Hirshberg explained, it is the most successful action figure line from 2013. Looking ahead, Activision expects "a different cadence for the reveal" of the next Skylanders sequel.
“The team at Toys for Bob is going for it,” Activision CEO and president Eric Hirshberg said of the next Skylanders game. “As with last year with Swap Force I knew we had something special and something different…we have that again. It’s really exciting and really breakthrough.” Look forward to a reveal "a little later" in the year.
Before then, however, Swap Force will see significant additions. “I think 20% of the Swap Force is still yet to be released, so some of our most exciting characters are still coming,” Hirshberg said.
