Breaking Bad's Jesse Plemons to Star in New NBC Parenthood-Friday Night Lights Crossover Webseries

NBC has announced that it will release a slate of original digital tie-ins to Chicago Fire, Parenthood, Grimm and Parks and Recreation. The four web-only miniseries will appear on Hulu and YouTube beginning today.

According to NBC, the new content is designed “to help viewers remain engaged with their favorite programs” while NBC’s primetime schedule is taken over by the Sochi Olympics, which run until Febraury 23.

First up is Chicago Fire’s four part web series "I Am A Firefighter", which debuts today. It focuses on Monica Raymond’s aspiring smoke-eater Dawson as she holds down the fort at the firehouse. Here’s a clip:

The second series, which debuts on Thursday ,February 13, may be the most interesting. Titled "Friday Night at the Luncheonette", it features Parenthood’s Amber (Mae Whitman) who's on duty at the Luncheonette recording studio during the arrival of Crucifictorius, the fictional band fronted by Landry Clarke (Breaking Bad’s Jesse Plemons) in the Friday Night Lights TV series. Sure, it's not the feature film the canceled series deserves, but it'll do. Plemons will reprise his role as Landry while Derek Phillips shows up as the elder Riggins brother, Billy. (This will actually be Phillips’ second appearance in the Parenthood universe, though he’ll be playing an entirely different character.)

The tie-in series for Grimm and Parks and Rec kick off February 14 and 20, respectively. The Grimm series, "Love is in the Air", will have a decidedly Valentine's Day theme, while Park & Rec’s "The Hapley Group" sounds like a zany, Pawnee-centric McLaughlin Group. The show-within-a-show will be hosted by Jay Jackson’s Perd Hapley with guests Crazy Ira (Matt Besser), The Douche (Nick Kroll), Joan Callamezzo (Mo Collins) and Mike Patterson (Seth Morris), a new character who will recur on the TV show as well.
