Harry Potter and Gravity Producer David Heyman Bringing DC Comics' DMZ to Syfy

Not all comic book TV series will be centered on superheroes. The DC Comics imprint Vertigo is giving producers plenty of non-superhero source material with series like I, Zombie and Preacher headed for the small screen. Now, DMZ is being adapted for television.

According to Deadline, DMZ is headed to Syfy, with Harry Potter and Gravity producer David Heyman attached. Former Mad Men executive producers Andre and Maria Jacquemetton are writing the adaptation, based on the Vertigo comic series, created by Brian Wood and Riccardo Burchielli.

The team behind DMZ’s adaptation has an acclaimed track record. Heyman earned himself an Academy-Award nomination for Gravity, and was acquainted with much success as producer of the Harry Potter films. The Jacquemettons won three Emmys when they served as executive producers on Mad Men.

DMZ ran for 72 issues, from 2005-2012.  Set in the not-too-distant future, the comic book series focused on a man trapped in a demilitarized Manhattan after the events of a second American Civil War.

Unlike The Walking Dead, DMZ is a post-apocalyptic tale with a definite end.
