The Walking Dead: Which Group Has the Best Chance?

Walking Dead spoilers up through the Season 4 midseason finale "Too Far Gone"...

AMC's The Walking Dead returns this coming Sunday, February 9th, with the second half of Season 4, so we thought it'd be a great time to look back at the midseason finale and sift through the fallout.

With the prison now all shot up, partly blown to bits, and overrun with walkers, the survivors have now scattered out into the wilderness, much like they did back when Hershel's farm got overtaken. Rick and Carl, now both traumatically deranged, have scurried off to mourn the loss of baby Judith while the rest of the gang has separated into splinter groups. Michonne's on her own again, Glenn seemingly escaped on a bus filled with no-name Woodburians, Daryl and Beth exited the screen together while Maggie, Tyreese, Sasha, and Carol's crazy girls left in a panic.

So who's got the best chance of surviving? Word has it that these remaining Season 4 episodes are grim with a capital "Guuuuh," so there might even be a higher chance than normal of beloved bodies hitting the floor. This season already cost us Hershel, The Governor, Carol (whereabouts unknown), the nice lady Tyreese was having sex with, the insane Irish woman in the forest, and a bunch of folks to tree flu/pig fever/z-bola.

For those gamblers out there, let's break down the overall odds. Who lives to see another dawn? (Note: Some of these groups are assumed pairings based on what we saw in "Too Far Gone" and what we've seen in the midseason trailer)

Rick and CAAWWWRRRLLL

♪Oh, it's suuuch a perfect day...♪

Oh boy. These two have a better-than-average chance of surviving simply because they're Rick and Carl. Rick's the lead and Carl's the kid who fans wanted dead long ago but the show never obliged. Not that it won't be a bitch for them to overcome their recent loss, but the two of them have been dodging walkers for years now. And avoiding death while simultaenously crumbling under mass amounts of grief is their specialty. They're multi-taskers!

Odds of Survival: Even

"Forever Alone" Michonne

♪...I'm glad I spent it with you...♪

♪...I'm glad I spent it with you...♪

Michonne being on her own (again) is probably the best thing to happen to Michonne from a survival standpoint. Because she'd just started to loosen up and care about other people. And that never ends well in a zombie apocalypse. That being said, what is there left for Michonne to contribute now? Not being tethered to any one character or story is also dangerous - like a lifeboat in the middle of shark-infested waters. So while we're confident in her sword swinging abilities, her lack of "something to live for" (plus her getting re-stranded) dampens her chances a bit.

Odds of Survival: 3 to 1

Daryl and Beth. aka "Bethyl." aka "Deth." Wait...

"It's like, I can't even remember what it was like to take a selfie anymore."

First off, if Daryl ever dies there will be full-blown rioting on the streets. I'm vehemently against characters sticking around simply because fans love them when their death might push the show to a great, new level - but this could get dangerous. That being said, there's a chance at a love connection here for Daryl and Beth, which can act as its own death curse. Not just in a world of zombies, but on TV in general. And through this, Beth has the chance to actually blossom as a character - which we've already seen the beginnings of this season.

So if we're playing the best "worst case scenario" game, Beth bites it and Daryl, having just found a nice girl to wrap his arm around, makes some positively divine redneck anguish faces.

Yes, there's a good chance that Beth is actually 16 or 17 (remember when Carl briefly crushed on her?) and Daryl is 87 (in tracker years). So we acknowledge that this potential pairing would be icky under normal, law-abiding circumstances. We'll see. Maybe Daryl's too Daryl-y to make a move? I mean, he resisted Carol's seductive "Pookie" calls for years.

Odds of Survival: 5 to 1

Tyreese, Sasha, Bob, Maggie, and "Les Filles Dangereuses"

"Those little girls...they've killed everyone...rolling around in all the blood...giggling..."

Now I'm not sure if this is one big group or several smaller groups. There's a chance that Tyreese is only with Lizzie and Mika. In which case he's got the best chance of surviving since the those little gals are straight-up sociopaths.

Which would mean that Maggie, Sasha, and Bob are lunchmeat. Though it would be strange for Maggie to bite the dust before she's reunited with Glenn due to the TV rule of "one last boink."

"Did we just hear you cough?"

"Did we just hear you cough?"

And with a lot of fans not truly believing that baby Judith is dead, one of these groups could have the little "Ass Kicker." And whoever has her, if they do, improves their odds. Like a game of hot potato, but with a baby. And, like, you want to be left holding the baby.

Odds of Survival: 10 to 1 (3 to 1, with ass-kicking potato)

Good Ol' Glenn

"...anyway, here's Wonderwall."

Glenn had truly felt like a main event player...up until this season. He was integral to the team for the first three years of the show and then this year he caught the flu and rolled around in his own mucus for three weeks. And when The Governor attacked the prison, he was still too fatigued from nearly dying to help out. And the last time we saw him, he was being told by Maggie to stay on the bus.

Which I think we can assume means he probably didn't stay on the bus. Because that would mean he'd be stuck with a bunch of non-credit nobodies. And it would also mean that he didn't go after the woman he loves, despite his illness. Which is staggeringly unromantic for a romantic lead.

But the problem still remains that Glenn felt marginalized all season. Which could mean that he's become expendable.

Odds of Survival: 15 to 1

So which group do you think has the best chance of not getting eviscerated?
