Ghosted #7 Review

STK631780You’ve got to love a good, old-fashioned heist story, right? You’ve got your criminal masterminds, whatever it is they want to steal, and plenty of danger to go around. Ghosted, by Joshua Williamson, adds a paranormal twist into that classic mix. The result is a premise that is an interesting amalgamation of Ocean’s Eleven and Ghostbusters, though issue #7 may lack one essential element to sell its main character: expertise.

The opening scenes of issue #7 introduce us to a world that is clearly full of danger. At the same time, Williamson is quick to point out that this world is more than guns and gangsters. The story is initially framed as a kind of rescue mission for a girl caught up in a sex trafficking scheme, but morphs into something otherworldly soon after. The paranormal elements are fun, and they definitely add wrinkles to what could have been standard heist story. Where this issue disappoints is in the heist element itself. A good heist requires a good plan, and if we’re to believe that Jackson Winters is a heist-planning expert, then it would be beneficial not to see him blunder into situations as often as we did here.

Davide Gianfelice in on art duties, and his characters are all unique and expressive. His style is fairly down-to-earth, which makes the book’s sudden shifts into the paranormal that much more shocking. His clear and dynamic action along with his appropriately gruesome monsters makes it clear just what kind of danger our main character continues to find himself in.

Mike Logsdon is a master of Kung Fu and reading comics. Find out which one of those things is actually true by following him on Twitter and IGN!
