Inafune to Turn Mighty No. 9 Into a Multimedia Franchise

In an effort to expand Mighty No. 9, the spiritual successor to Mega Man, into a multimedia IP, creator Keiji Infaune has been in talks with a film studio regarding a live-action film adaptation of the title.

Earlier this week on EP Live, Tim Carter, a Contradictions film writer and producer, said his company was working on the adaptation and that he had been in talks with Inafune.

Although this was true, Inafune told Polygon, Mighty No. 9 development studio Comcept has yet to make any final decisions.

"It's not actually a 100 percent set deal yet," he said. "It is something we are looking forward to and considering the possibilities of. We are in talks with Contradiction about the possibility of making a live-action Mighty No. 9 movie."

Inafune said that, while he and Carter didn't discuss any story details, they did have conversations about the Mighty No. 9 universe on a broader scale. That is, Inafune spoke about plans for other media, not just film and video games.

"The story as a whole we're planning on making is a lot bigger than Mega Man was," he said. "There are a lot of things in the story, a lot of things we've already considered and already have for Mighty No. 9 that exists. With just one game we won't be able to go over all of these things."

Inafune recently said he has "unexpected plans" for the Kickstarter-backed title, and that Comcept will be taking steps to set it apart from Mega Man.

"I'd like there to be a comic book, manga, anime, movie, TV drama series," he said, regarding Mighty No. 9. "Any possibility you can think of."
