I think well know there will be a Frozen 2, whether it's a theatrical release or as one of Disney's hugely successful direct-to-video animated sequels. Frozen has simply made too much money at the box office and from merchandising to simply have Disney (ahem!) let it go. (You're welcome.) However, a sequel to 2013's biggest animated hit isn't on the studio's front burner at the moment.
Disney Animation executive Vice-President and General Manager Andrew Millstein, the day-to-day boss of that section of the Disney empire, told The Hollywood Reporter, "At the moment, there's not a sequel on the drawing boards. Could there be? Sure. But we're not engineered around the predetermination of that."
Perhaps we'll get a more definitive answer on the next Frozen movie once the original hits Blu-ray on March 18.
On the Marvel front, Millstein also stressed that this November's animated Big Hero 6 is one of his division's projects not Marvel Studios per se. "It's a Disney Animation Studios project. We have friends at Marvel. We like to share where we are," Millstein told THR. "But it's more from the perspective of, 'Share your wisdom with us, what's working, what's not.' But it really lives within Disney Animation Studios.
When specifically asked whether Big Hero 6 will be presented as "Marvel-based," Millstein responded, "We're going to have to fine-tune the language of the presentation. But it's not a secret we are trying to hide. We will highlight that in the right way."
Big hero 6 hits theaters November 7.
