Warning: MILD SPOILERS for X-Men: Days of Future Past ahead!!
By the conclusion of X-Men: First Class, Nicholas Hoult’s Beast had become a fully-transformed, blue uhm…beast. While the transformation seemed irreversible, Beast has appeared in human form in various stills and trailers for X-Men: Days of Future Past. Now clearing up any confusion, Hoult gives a very Hulk-like explanation for the character’s many looks.
In an interview with JoBlo, Hoult told them, “...between the time of the last movie and this movie my character has created a serum which basically controls his mutation so his appearance is normal as long as he doesn’t get worked up. Any animal instinct or urges, that kind of brings him out.”
Animal urges, huh? We hope that doesn’t include any more romantic moments with Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique.
Hoult goes on to say that he’ll make the transformation to Beast in various action sequences in the film, including, “flying around on chandeliers and stuff.”
In the comics, Beast has gone through many changes -- from a grey to blue-furred simian, to his cat-like secondary mutation -- and they continue! Even in the X-Men film universe, Hoult’s Beast looks quite different from Grammar’s version in X-Men: The Last Stand.
X-Men: Days of Future Past hits theatres May 23, 2014.
