Fire Hose Games Offers Help to Laid-Off Game Devs

Fire Hose Games, the Boston-based developer that helped work on Dance Central and Rock Band Blitz, is offering free desk space to laid-off game developers. The initiative was sparked by recent layoffs from Irrational Games.

"We’re offering free desk space to recently laid off devs who are planning on going full time indie," reads a blog post on Fire Hose Games' website. "It’s a simple deal, and we’re hoping that it’ll help make the independent transition easier for those planning on making the switch," said the post.

What's the Future of Irrational Games?

The post points to Ken Levine's surprising and sudden announcement on the 18th of February that he was refocusing his energy "on a smaller team with a flatter structure and a more direct relationship with gamers," and that Irrational Games would be shutting down.

The company promises devs "a desk, a chair," and the potential to "borrow some of our space equipment." The post adds, "you get access when we’re here, 10-7 M-F. Oh, and it’s an awesome work environment where you can focus and get your sh*t done."

Fire Hose also said in the blog posting that they're still "in the process of setting up an indie game seed fund designed to support Boston area indie teams," and that "there’s no catch, you don’t owe us anything. We’re doing this out of the goodness of our hearts, and also the fact that we have some open desk space anyway."

Candidates are encouraged to apply by sending an email to the company telling them "who you are, what your indie plans are, and why you should get a desk."
